The 4 Basic Steps To Creating A Greeting Card

Receiving a greeting card, especially a handmade one, is always delightful. It is a sweet gesture indicating that someone spent their time and effort to design or select a card especially for you. If you want to make someone feel special and brighten up their day, make a handmade card for them. It is not as difficult as you think it is and it is affordable! There are so many cheap craft supplies available in the market from which you can make dozens of cards.

A beautiful card can be made by following these 4 simple but effective steps:

Step 1: Select a Theme for your Card

First of all you need to select the theme of the card; keeping in mind the occasion and the person you are giving the card to. Is it for Christmas for your grandparents? A birthday card for your best friend?A thank you card for a colleague or a teacher? Set the theme and select the appropriate message for the card. You can also decide at this stage whether you want to put the greeting on the front or inside the card or maybe a bit of both!!

Step 2: Choosing The Base

Once you’ve chosen the theme you move onto selecting the base. Use a blank cardstock in whichever colour you think best suits your theme. Such as red for Christmas, blue for a baby boy, pink for a special little girl. Select the size and paper material. Alternatively you could use a plain white card and add colour to your chosen colour to it in a different way. Once you have selected the paper base for your card, fold it in half.

Step 3: Layering and Dimensions

This is the best part of all. This is where your creative juices really get going!! Start adding one or many layers of coloured sheets. There are so many paper crafting sheets with different textures and colours to add dimension in your card. Select the ones that go best with your theme.

Step 4: Adding The Bling

Here you can go crazy with embellishments. Add pearls, charms, rhinestones, tags and whatever you love. This is when you add the sparkle in the card, the piece de resistance!! Make it as pretty as you want. If you are good at sketching, then you can even draw something on the card. You might even add a picture of you and the recipient.

See how easy card making is? Just add in the personal note and you are done and dusted. The best thing about handmade greeting cards is that there is no right or wrong. You can make any kind of card by using your creativity. The recipient will love the fact that you spent time, effort and energy on making a unique and special card for them.
